Chet Holmgren, Thunder Agree to Fully Guaranteed $250M Contract after NBA Title Win
The Oklahoma City Thunder have reportedly agreed to a rookie max extension with star center Chet Holmgren following the team’s victory in the 2025 NBA Finals.
Holmgren’s agent, Bill Duffy of WME Basketball, confirmed the agreement on a fully guaranteed extension that could max out at $250 million over five years, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
This is the second major contract extension the Thunder have gotten done since they defeated the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals. Reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander agreed to a four-year, $285 million deal on July 1.
Jalen Williams, who is also eligible to sign an extension this summer, is expected to get a deal done with the Thunder at some point.
Holmgren, 22, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft but missed his entire rookie season due to a foot injury. He showed off his immense potential a year later, finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting after averaging 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 37 percent from three.
He continued to play well this past season, averaging 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 37.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Holmgren maintained that performance throughout the Thunder’s postseason run. He averaged 15.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in 23 playoff starts.
The Thunder have built an incredible young core headlined by perennial MVP candidate Gilgeous-Alexander, Holmgren and Williams. OKC figures to remain a title contender for years to come as long as that trio remains in place.
“It’s super fun,” Gilgeous-Alexander told B/R in March about playing alongside Holmgren. “It’s where the NBA has gone today, it’s positionless basketball. Any position can do anything, pass, dribble, shoot. He’s such a versatile player, he brings so much to the game and makes it so much easier for myself and the rest of my teammates.”
Now he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
